A Natural Setting Between Ocean and Mountains

Trois-Bassins stretches from the Indian Ocean to the summit of Grand Bénare, rising nearly 3,000 meters above sea level. The village, located at 800 meters altitude, overlooks the cirques of Mafate and Cilaos, offering spectacular panoramas of Reunion’s mountains and its wild coastline.

Beaches and Surfing in Trois-Bassins

The region is famous for its white sand beaches, dramatic cliffs, and an unmissable surf spot. Trou d’Eau beach is a real gem, with its soft sand and turquoise waters, perfect for swimming and sunbathing.

The Trois-Bassins surf spot is one of the island’s best-known, attracting both experienced surfers and beginners. With long lefts and rights, plus user-friendly reform waves, conditions are excellent almost year-round.
Protected by the Coastal Conservatory, this site retains its wild and authentic charm.

Hiking and Biodiversity

For hikers, Trois-Bassins offers exceptional trails. The Cap Noir trail is particularly popular, providing a panoramic view of the Mafate cirque, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The region also showcases Reunion Island’s remarkable biodiversity. At Saint-Leu, the Mascarin National Botanical Conservatory invites visitors to explore the island’s unique endemic flora and fauna.

An Authentic and Peaceful Village

Nestled among sugarcane fields, Trois-Bassins retains its quiet charm and authentic village feel. Its central location makes it easy to reach Reunion’s major attractions, while still enjoying peace and serenity.

For seaside walks, the coastline of Trois-Bassins has a unique feature: the Souris Chaude beach, one of the few naturist areas on Reunion Island.
